So I had a client come in for the first time today.
Does Ms.
G warn me? Of course not. She seems to take pleasure in my misery.
So he walks
into my office. He’s about 45 and just sad. I ask him, what is it I can do for
you? “I suffer from allodoxaphobia” he says. A fear of opinions.
This man with
a supposed fear of opinions has sought the wisdom of a psychiatrist!? What
exactly do you expect me to do? Sing you lullabies!?
I was this close to
standing up and throwing him from my office, but then I remembered how much I
love my summer home. If I kicked out every idiot who wandered aimlessly into my
office, I’d be left with only one home, and well, who wants to live like that?
Dr. Em
Oh Dr Em, don't be so hard on the guy. I'm sure you can find a way to treat him without using opinions. Maybe you can pretend to be a robot during your sessions. Robots don't have emotions (at least not yet) and therefore no opinions. :)
